What the Confusion Has Looked Like

This has not been a theoretical problem.

Over the past several years, we have received calls from people upset about work we did not perform. Some believed they had hired us when they had not.

We have heard from trade partners asking about payments we did not owe, for projects we did not contract, manage, or build.

We have had reporters, lawyers, bankers, investors, homeowners, and suppliers contact us to ask which Oakwood was which OakWood.

We have reviewed online posts and comments where the facts, project locations, company details, or surrounding circumstances showed that the content was not about OakWood by the Liptak Group.

In some cases, the issue becomes clear very quickly.

Was the project in Kingston?

Was the contract with The Oakwood Group?

• The paperwork, address, website, or contact information does not match OakWood Designers & Builders Inc.

We are not asking the public to resolve that issue for us. That is for police, counsel, investigators, and the courts.

But it is important context because a homeowner doing online research may encounter three different categories of content:

• Content about the Oakwood Group of Kingston that has been misattributed to our OakWood.

We are now a fourth-generation family business. The same family name remains attached to the company, the work, and the long-term accountability behind it.

OakWood has completed more than 10,700 projects in the Ottawa region, including renovations, additions, kitchens, custom homes, and broader design-build work.

We operate three Ottawa Design Centre locations.

We are a registered Tarion builder for new homes.

We understand why a homeowner researches before calling a builder. They should.

A renovation, addition, kitchen, or custom home is a significant financial and personal decision. Clients are right to ask hard questions before hiring anyone.

The problem is not due diligence.

The problem is misidentification.

If a homeowner reads about a different Oakwood company and believes the story is about us, their due diligence has been misdirected.

If a homeowner reads an anonymous post with no contract name, no project address, no legal entity, and no verifiable facts, they may be reacting to something that cannot be properly assessed.
